Shiply Celebrates Milestone of 500,000 Listings

Since June 2008, Shiply, a website matching people moving goods with delivery companies already making similar journeys has reached the massive milestone of 500,000 actual live listings. This means since its launch, users on Shiply.com have listed over 500,000 items, from cars to boats to house moves, looking to save up to 75% off their transport costs.

Today a listing is created every 24 seconds on Shiply! With over 8000 listings per month from its 300,000 + registered users, Shiply.com continues to attract transport companies looking to fill up their vehicles space and make extra profit on existing delivery routes. Because of this, Shiply.com has helped save more than 19 million otherwise wasteful road miles and 9.2 million kgs associated CO2 emissions.

Shiply.com was founded by Robert Matthams, a Manchester Business School graduate who came up with the idea when seeing a driver returning to London empty after delivering a pool table to him in Manchester. Described as “eBay but for moving goods”, users list items to move on Shiply.com and get competitive quotes from transport companies going there anyway.

Mr Matthams, who was named as Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year and BT Entrepreneur of the Year said: “We are delighted to have reached this major milestone, 500,000 delivery listings is a fantastic achievement and shows how popular Shiply has become. Given the price of fuel recently, people have definitely become savvy when it comes to saving on transport and Shiply provides the best environment to do so.”

Excess International Movers Launch New Service For Hassle Free Moves

There are thousands of UK expats who shut up shop overseas and head homewards annually. They usually engage a foreign removal company to do the move, sometimes at significant cost. The problem is that once they have left their foreign domicile they have little or no control of the move, or leverage on the foreign moving company that they have chosen.

That’s where Excess International Movers come in. As one of the largest importers of household goods in the UK, Excess have tried and tested networks of agents worldwide, and through their agent network they are able to arrange the best quality move, at the most competitive price.

Excess International Movers, www.excess-international.com, have just launched a new service where they take all the hassle out of the move, and deal direct with the overseas removal company, on the client’s behalf. The client is quoted one final, ‘all in price’ for the move into the UK (or anywhere else on the planet), and Excess International Movers take care of all the paperwork and organisation. Excess International’s ‘Move Home’ service has been hailed as one of the most innovative developments in International Moving. Excess International Movers are one of the UK’s top ten International removals organisations with over 30 offices nationally, and they are able to organise any move back to the UK for expats whether they are heading home from LA, Tokyo or Dubai. As members of the International Movers Federation (FIDI), and the International Association of Movers (IAM), they are always able to source the best and most reliable agent depending on clients’ requirements and budget whether you require Removals to Australia or USA Removals services.

Excess Baggage Company Introduce Express Overnight Luggage Services

Excess Baggage Company has developed a new overnight luggage service for shipments within the UK and Europe. The service is designed to allow airline passengers to travel light and send their baggage overnight, perfect for destinations such as luggage shipping to France.

It is particularly suited to airline passengers and those who would normally be charged a premium to take their excess baggage with them on board by airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet, as well as British Airways, Air France, KLM and Lufthansa. The charges made by airlines for luggage beyond the 20kg allowance ranges from £20/kg and up, depending on the airline carrier and route. An average suitcase from London to Dublin, above the allowance, would cost around €400 with the airline. Excess Baggage Company’s easy to use service allows the passenger to dispatch his luggage in advance for 24/48 hour door to door delivery on many routes for a fraction of this price.

Excess Baggage Company, www.Excess-Baggage.com have traditionally specialised in Intercontinental Baggage Moving to destinations like shipping to Australia, NZ, South Africa and SE Asia with shipping Freight to China as well, and it is hoped that this new product will help travellers who need to move their baggage at short notice door to door.

Excess International Movers Makes Shipping Possessions Easier For Migrants

With the current economic recession still holding down house prices, and making it difficult to sell, Excess International Movers have come up with a new service to assist migrants. Normally migrants heading for Australia, New Zealand, or Canada; the traditional migration destinations, have their furniture and household goods packed in 20 foot or 40 foot shipping containers for transit via container vessel to their new home.

Excess International Movers Makes Shipping Possessions Easier For Migrants

Excess International Movers are now offering shippers the opportunity to store their goods in the UK for up to twelve months at half price, providing that the goods are all then eventually shipped. On top of this, Excess are offering a discount ‘large baggage/small shipment’ service for immediate necessities, for those who put their households into store. Excess will ship up to two cubic metres door to door to any major city in Australia, New Zealand or Canada for a flat rate of £500* f r o m the London area (small surcharge outside London). That’s a whopping sixteen tea chests equivalent!

The price includes supply of cartons, plus delivery, and collection once the boxes have been packed. Excess have worked with their major agents overseas to provide this special discount service for shippers. Companies like Grace Removals and Kent Moving in Australia and the Moving Company and Transworld Removals in New Zealand were happy to assist to give migrants that extra fillip to assist them in setting up their new homes down under.

To use this service, would be migrants should contact Excess International Movers (www.excess-international.com) 0800 524 4388 at the first available opportunity, to allow a viewing and estimation to be arranged for their household goods. Excess will send out a specially trained estimator, who will assess the volume of the international removals shipment, and provide advice on what to take and what not to take. The estimator will help the migrant decide what are necessities, and what can be put into temporary storage, and take them through all the customs, quarantine and shipping regulations, that they are likely to come up against. After this, it a simple matter of accepting the quotation, and arranging for Excess International Movers’ well trained and experienced removalists to come and pack the shipment for export; crating goods as required, and loading them into an air ride truck for delivery into storage. Goods that are urgently needed can also be collected at this point (or later), and then shipped by air or by sea to coincide with the owner’s arrival in their new country.

Moving Scams in Los Angeles on the Rise

Not everyone moving to Los Angeles is very excited about it, because many people moving to LA have been victimized by the fraudulent LA moving companies. In the recent months, there have been several reports of cases related to moving scams in Los Angeles, which is cause of serious concern for people moving to the City of Angels.

The low cost of entry into the moving business and lack of proper regulation to control the activity of movers are the reasons behind the rise in moving scams in Los Angeles. Since 1995, the industry is operating in the absence of any proper regulation, which has provided scammers almost a free rein. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is responsible for the interstate movers, but it is severely understaffed which has left them with no resources to focus on individual cases. This has led to tripling of moving scam cases in the last one decade.

The slowdown-stricken online deal hunters are the prime target for the moving scammers. The scammers begin in a very friendly manner and offer the most affordable and even unrealistic price. They do everything in their capacity to convince a customer about the quality of their services and responsiveness of their support teams, and once the customer’s goods are loaded on to the truck this façade melts down showing the real behind-the-scene story. By then, it is too late for the customer.

“Every day we get calls from people in panic because the moving services they hired literally dropped them, as customers, just days before their planned move date”, said Richard Brooks, Director of LA Pro Movers. “Quite often, we also hear the horror stories of bait and switch pricing where the moving service refuses to unload their customer’s belongings from the moving truck until a hiked up additional fee is paid to the moving company. This practice is all too common.”

DGL Wow’s Client with IES Technology

When Linda Snyder, President of freight forwarder Diversified Global Logistics (DGL), purchased the Memphis branch of Forward Logistics Group in 2007, she quickly realized the challenges presented by a name change, “All our customers knew us by another name, and everyone was a little skittish at first. We knew we had a few hurdles ahead.”

DGL Wow’s Client with IES Technology

“We knew we were up for a challenge,” adds Bernie Snyder, Vice President at DGL, “One particular shipment comes to mind. In this case, I think it might be best to explain this as a narrative, just as we experienced it. Our German agent had an MD10 aircraft grounded at Frankfurt needing major repairs to one of its Rolls Royce engines,” narrates Bernie Snyder, “Aircraft on Ground (AOG) shipments are always ‘hot’, but this shipment was ‘on fire’. The engines could only be repaired at the Rolls Royce RR-Tay facility outside of Dallas.”

“However, there was more at stake here than just the potential for short-term loss. Our customer was building a relationship with a new account and was concerned about the potential loss of goodwill and trust.”

“We orchestrate everything to ensure the process goes smoothly,” Customs Broker Ron Davis explains, “If you think about it, AOG by its nature is a ‘hiccup’ in the system where something is broken. The trick is how to create order out of a situation which is inherently chaotic. We’re not the ones fixing the aircraft, but we’re the ones who ensure that everything is on-hand and on-time. In a sense, we’re like a surgical team ensuring that the surgeon has all the tools on hand. There are a lot of details that have to mesh perfectly to ensure that the process runs smoothly.”

“In this case, right at wheels-up, we already had all the AMS information on hand. IES products www.iesltd.com allowed the freight to be pre-cleared well before arrival. We were already speaking to the flatbed dispatcher before the flight landed, and the engine was soon on its way to the RR-Tay repair facility.”

Stena Line Has Won ‘Best Ferry Operator’ At The Scottish Passenger Association Awards

Stena Line, the leading ferry company, is celebrating another successful awards win after scooping the ‘Best Ferry Company’ title at the Scottish Passenger Awards, held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel.

The win at the SPAA event, which was attended by 600 industry professionals from all over the UK, follows the company’s success at the at Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards last month, where Stena Line walked away with the ‘Best Ferry/Shipping Company’ accolade for a record sixteenth time.

The continued success of the Belfast to Stranraer ferry route marks the end of a busy year for Stena Line, one which saw the opening of a new state of the art passenger terminal in Belfast and continued discussion with regards to the building of a new Scottish port at Old House Point near Cairnryan.

Stena Line’s Route Manager, Paul Grant, is delighted at the company’s double awards win.

“As always, it was very satisfying to take home the ‘Best Ferry/Shipping Company’ award from the recent NI Travel News event but to also come away with the equivalent accolade from the Scottish Passenger Association Awards is a real bonus after what has been an extremely busy year for Stena Line on the Belfast – Stranraer route,” Paul said.

“All our staff in every area of the business put in a tremendous effort to ensure that we have maintained the highest possible standards of customer care throughout a very a exciting year for Stena Line that has seen the opening of our fantastic new facility in Belfast and the refit of the Stena Line HSS,” continued Paul. “We are very proud of the quality of service we provide and it is wonderful to see our hard work recognised on both sides of the Irish Sea. I would like to thank all those who voted for Stena Line on both occasions,” he added.

Stena Line is the market leader on the Irish Sea, offering the biggest fleet and the widest choice of ferries from Ireland to Britain, including the Belfast to Stranraer, Dun Laoghaire and Dublin Port to Holyhead, Rosslare to Fishguard and Larne to Fleetwood ferry routes. Stena Line Has Found That The Biggest Worry The British Public Have Is Not Having Enough Time To Do What They Want

Stena Line revealed that not having enough time to do what they want is the main concern of the British public. The new research from the UK ferry operator found that 49% of people cited lack of time as their biggest gripe while health concerns scored a low 9%.

Looking at antidotes to stress, Stena Line found that far from dreaming of fame and money, it is the simple things in life that we really yearn for. 28% of those surveyed said that a simple short haul holiday would reduce stress, whilst 25% wanted more time to listen to music and 21% wanted to read more.

The survey also revealed that a short haul holiday causes its own woes – with 39% citing the dread of completing their work before going on holiday as the most stressful. 39% also found air travel the most stressful with 1% citing ferries as a stressful mode of transport.

Lars Olsson, Stena Line’s general manager of travel for the UK, said, “With the increasing stress, crowds and queues involved in air travel we’re delighted that more people are turning to ferry travel to allay their stress.”

“Stena Line’s ‘dutchflyer‘ rail and sail product is becoming increasingly popular as it combines with overnight crossings, allowing workers to minimise time out of the office and finish assignments before heading to the port by train from London or East Anglia after work, sailing in one of our refitted cabins.

“With the credit crunch taking a real hold we expect that ‘dutchflyer’ will gain further popularity, as the cabins included in the fare eliminate the need to pay for an extra hotel night.”

Notes to Editors:
In the UK alone, Stena Line offers two daily ferries to Holland on its Harwich to Hook of Holland route as well as over 30 daily crossings on its five different routes to Ireland (Stranraer to Belfast, Fleetwood to Larne, Holyhead to Dublin, Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire and Fishguard to Rosslare) providing fast and efficient crossings with excellent onboard services and facilities.

Stena Line’s rail and sail dutchflyer product includes rail travel from any National Express East Anglia rail station including London Liverpool Street and onward travel to any NS Dutch rail station. Dutchflyer fares from any National Express East Anglia station start from just £29 per person one-way.
